Challenge

From 2003 to 2013, 28 fatatlities and 227 serious injuries (such as amputations) were related to lockout/tagout procedures in food manufacturing. The largest number of inicidents occurred in meatpacking and poultry slaughtering and processing. Lockout/tagout was also the most frequently cited OSHA violation in 2012-2013 for food manufacturing, with penalties totaling over $894,000.

Solution

This course is designed to inform and educate employees how to properly lockout and tagout equipment during maintenance servicing.

Result

The implementation improved the Biomedical Technician's ability to more efficiently and effectively meet OSHA requirements for annual training on lockout/tagout, which is essential for preventing worker injuries and fatalities.
